With the beginning, the geriatric nurse at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital came to ask for advice on how to brush teeth for older patients who are hospitalized. Most older patients could not sit up right to brush their teeth. The nurse, therefore, had to brush the patient’s teeth in a lying position. The nurse was afraid of the possibility of choking on toothpaste and water while brushing the patient’s teeth. This is the origin of the research and development for suction toothbrush and new innovative toothfoam program. for the dependent older or bedridden patients in 2018.
The research team searched for information and reports from around the world and reviewed all reported and publications. The team had traveled to Japan to study the oral care for the dependent and hospitalized patients. The team then brainstormed, developed and designed a toothbrush with a liquid drainage hidden inside the handle. There is a thread at the end of the handle to allow it to connect to the suction system on the hospital ward. The suction toothbrush has a mechanism that controls the suction power while brushing teeth, nurses can suck liquid out of the patient's mouth as soon as needed
When the design is finished, a prototyped was developed and tested for strength, durable, applicable, etc. The research team improved all the weaknesses until a suction toothbrush works effectively.
Our suction toothbrush is an innovative product especially designed for the dependent older people. Therefore, the brand was named Inno-Age. The suction toothbrush was registered as a medical device. from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Ministry of Public Health, Thailand. It also received the Outstanding Innovation Product Award in 2022
In the year 2022, the company was selected from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to be one of eight national Health Tech teams in the NSTDA Accel Cohort #2 project. During the last quarter of 2022, the company's management team saw the potential and growth of the global aging product market, the company has been selected from the Department of International Trade Promotion Ministry of Commerce (DITP) to be part of Thailand Pavilion at the medical device exhibition in Medica 2022, held at Dusseldorf, the Federal Republic of Germany.
